Seeing Red in California - Redpoll on Vacation?

Though common in cooler areas such as Alaska, the Arctic and Canada, spotting a Redpoll bird in Julian, California is something which simply does not happen; however, much to the shock and bewilderment of many, that's exactly what happened this past January.  As was stated by The Birdwatcher store owner Rick Campbell, "It would be like seeing a penguin in Julian.  It's impossible!"  The bird stayed for 15 days with approximately 1000 people coming to see it.  The sightings have elevated the bird's status to a "Rock Star!"

Rick Campbell also states that, "The Redpoll's favorite feeder is the Triple Tube Feeder by Songbird Essentials (SE324)...the Redpoll surrounded on every perch along with the Goldfinches."
